This module is an elective for undergraduate students and seeks to concentrate on laws and practices that are in place to protect the environment. While emphasis will be on the domestic arena, international agreements signifying increasing recognition by the international and regional community that environmental protection and management is critical for sustainable development will be covered. The complexity of environmental disputes and their varied causes will be addressed as well as the political nature of the discipline. The primary focus will be on environmental law and the procedures to be followed by administrative agencies as regulators.  Reference will be made to the historical significance of private law (nuisance) in protecting private property.
